About Kristina

Kristina Marusic (2001) is a Serbian violinist born in Belgrade and has been playing violin since she was seven years old. Currently, she is a 3rd-year bachelor violin student at the FHNW/Music Academy Basel in the class of Rainer Schmidt. Before that she studied in the class of Guy Braunstein.

During her studies, she has played numerous concerts as a soloist, with chamber ensembles and orchestras throughout Serbia as well as Europe. She has performed in halls such as Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Berliner Philharmonie, Kolarac Concert hall, Tonhalle Zurich, Stadt Casino Basel, Teatro alla Scala Milano, Stefaniensaal Graz etc.

So far, she has won more than 30 awards at an array of national and international solo and chamber music competitions. For multiple years she has been a scholarship holder of Musik Akademie Basel, Lyra Foundation in Switzerland, Foundation for young talents of Republic of Serbia, Foundation for young talents “Privrednik”. She also won a scholarship from the foundation “Dobar Glas” to participate in a masterclass with Nemanja Radulovic in 2021.

In the summer of 2022 she participated in The Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester Special Salzburg Project and the Summer tour. With them she played 18 concerts in Austria, Germany, Italy and Netherlands.

She has worked with conductors such as Teodor Currentzis, Jukka-Pekka Saraste, Tobias Woegerer, Josep Caballé Domenech, etc. From 2015 until 2017 she was a member and the concertmaster of the European Spirit of Youth Orchestra.

Kristina is very active in chamber music as well. She had the chance to perform with many outstanding musicians such as Rainer Schmidt, Nemanja Radulovic, Roman Simovic, Milena Simovic, Jan Vogler, Bogdan Bozovic, Marlin Hartelius, Thomas Zehetmair, Dmitry Smirnov, etc.

She participated in many chamber music festivals such as Festival and Masterclass Orchestra Camera de la Sardegna, Moritzburg Festival Academy, Germany, International Chamber Music Festival in Belgium - Musica Mundi, KotorArt, Montenegro, Boljsoj Festival of Emir Kusturica at Mokra Gora, Serbia, A-Fest in Novi Sad, Serbia etc.

She had chamber music masterclasses and lessons with Steven Isserlis, Alexander Sitkovetsky, Jan Vogler, Antony Marwood, Saiko Sasaki, Rainer Schmidt, Jiri Nemecek, Guy Braunstein, Sergio Azzolini, Anton Kernjak, Anna Gebert, Claudio Martinez Mehner, Mira Wang etc.

Solo masterclasses she had with Nemanja Radulovic, Gordan Nikolich, Roman Simovic, Alexander Sitkovetsky, Stephanie Gonley, Anthony Marwood, Ivry Gitlis, Herbert Greenberg, Igor Tkatchouk, Timur Melnyk, Qian Zhou, etc.

Previously, she has been studying with Robert Lakatos and Marija Kovacevic in Serbia.

Kristina plays on the violin from the 19th century and with the bow made by Vladimir Radosavljevic, both received in 2017 from The Foundation for Young Talents of City of Belgrade.
